As you may know (or at least I hope you do if you’ve been following this blog for a while) in a few more months, I will be a full-fledge and licensed pharmacist. My time in school has truly flown by, but I’m so glad that I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, if you know what I mean. This year, I wanted to create the ultimate gift guide for my fellow pharmacy students and for pharmacists that is perfect for the holiday season. If you know anyone in your life that is a pharmacist or in pharmacy school, then keep on reading to find the perfect gift for anyone on your list.
1. HoMedics Foot Massager: Working in a pharmacy typically means long work days that require you to be standing on your feet all day. So you can imagine that after a busy day in the pharmacy, your pharmacist friend or loved ones will have sore feet. This foot massager by (brand name) is the perfect and thoughtful gift that you’ll know for sure will be used on a regular basis.
2. Guidance Books: As a brand-new pharmacy graduate, starting your first job as a pharmacist can be exciting and nerve-wrecking. You have no idea what you’re doing and you’re just hoping to do your best (and hopefully not kill anyone!). I’ve seen these two books on the market written by pharmacist that gives graduates some guidance and encouragement that they’ll need for their first day (it has good reviews too!). I’ve also included two other books for those loved ones that are already pharmacist but may need guidance in other areas like finances and career fulfillment.
- First Time Pharmacist: Everything You Didn’t Learn in School or On-The-Job Training
- Letters to a Young Pharmacist: Sage Advice on Life & Career from Extraordinary Pharmacists
- Seven Figure Pharmacist
- Indispensable: The prescription for a fulfilling pharmacy career
3. Creative Badge Reels: Normally badge reels are pretty boring and void of any creativity when it comes to the workplace. Jazz it up with these fun felt ones on Etsy that come in all different designs, based on what the person may like or what their specialty is. These are also great gifts to give to preceptors at the end of a rotation experience.
4. Pharmacy Tote Bags: You can never go wrong with giving a pharmacist a pharmacy-related tote bag. Everyone has their “work” bag that carries everything they need for a long, busy day at work. These ones on Etsy allow you to customize the tote to your loved one or friends with a simple monogram or design.
5. Ember Travel Mug: Coffee is every pharmacist’s best friend (actually any healthcare professional for that matter), and this one stays warm up to 2 hours after the first pour. This is perfect gift for anyone working in a retail or hospital setting because you never know when the pharmacy may get busy and the pharmacist has to step away from his or her morning cup of coffee.
6. Monogrammed Pullover Hoodie: The biggest complaint that I hear from my fellow pharmacist and pharmacy students is being cold in the hospital, especially if the uniform is scrubs. Buy your loved one a cute pharmacy-theme monogrammed pullover that matches their uniform color and keep them warm on the job.
7. “Chill Pill” Soaps: Everyone needs soap so why not make it fun with this adorable “chill pill” soaps. These are great to add as a stocking stuffer during the holidays or to give out as favors at a party.
8. Candles: I love giving candles as gifts because it’s one of those gifts that is unexpected but appreciated (especially if you know what scents your loved one or friend enjoys). You can easily grab some from Bath & Body Works or I’ve found some great scents at stores like Marshalls and TJ Maxx.
9. Give the gift of a Spa Treatment: Working long and thankless hours at a pharmacy can be tiring and exhausting for any pharmacist, and the same goes for students who are typically stressed out the entire semester. A smoothing massage or a facial is the perfect gift for any pharmacist or pharmacy student that needs some R&R time.
10. Unique Experiences and Classes: And in the realm of useful gifts, giving the gift of a unique class is one that any loved one or friend will remember for years to come. You can find tons of classes or workshops in your area that can be tailored to the person’s interest and taste. Some examples are flower arrangement class, photography class, or even woodshop. Take your pick and surprise them with an event they won’t forget.
The world of pharmacy can be tough at times, and every little bit of appreciation will go a long way in warming up someone’s heart during this upcoming holiday season. It can be as simple as a puny homemade card that you got from Etsy or as extravagant as a foot massager, but regardless I know your loved one or friend will appreciate your thoughtful gesture. If you enjoyed this gift guide for pharmacists and pharmacy students, please share it and leave a comment below about what’s your favorite idea on the list!
