I honestly can’t believe that I’m writing this right now, but after almost 4 years of dating, the time has finally come…Surprise! We’re ENGAGED!
This past week has honestly been a whirlwind of emotions that it took me a week to sit down and actually write down our engagement story, which is why there was no new blog post this past Wednesday. I’m still in stock! This past Saturday, on August 17, 2019, Titi asked me to marry him in the most magical and surreal way possible. It was everything that I had dreamt about and the perfect proposal for the both of us. I’m so glad that he set up an entire post-proposal photo shoot and even got the proposal on video for our memories!
I had a pretty good feeling that this summer would be the season that we’d get engaged. I just wasn’t absolutely positive on the date or the place, well at least not right away. About a month ago, Titi told me to take off this particular Saturday and wouldn’t tell me why, only that it was a surprise trip. Which in my head, I really wanted to go digging and figure out what was going on during that weekend. But he told me not to, so I left it alone because deep down inside, I thought that it might be the day.
Then as the date grew closer and closer, little details started to come out like the location of the trip, a paid trip to get my nails done, and my mom telling me to buy a new dress for a surprise. Then Titi told me a week before the trip that I needed to be ready early in the morning by 6:30 am to leave our apartment for a couple’s photoshoot. It all started to settle in that this might be the time, but I didn’t want to get my hopes up just in case it didn’t happen.
The Proposal
It’s Saturday morning, aka now the best day of my life! I woke up super early to do my hair and to do my makeup. As I was defusing my wet curls that morning, I could feel myself getting more and more nervous by the minute. But I wasn’t going to let my nervousness show since I could tell Titi was also a little nervous and anxious. 6:30 am arrived and we headed on our way to our destination…which was Charlotte! I’ve been telling Titi that I wanted to do a few weekend trips this summer, so this trip was a really nice surprise. Almost two hours later, we rolled up to the Duke Mansion, a fabulous historic bed and breakfast with an even more beautiful backyard.
When we arrived, Titi left me in the car to go “check in” to our hotel for the weekend. I later found out that he was actually meeting the photographer in the gardens of the Duke Mansion and getting mic’ed up for the proposal video recording. After the scene was set, he came and grabbed me from the car and walked me into the gardens. I could very clearly see that there were two photographers and a tripod set up. At that moment, my heart was pounding in my chest, and I knew that this was it! He walked me across the gardens in front of the camera set-up and that’s where he asked me to be his wife! I won’t go into details of what he said, but just know that I ended up tearing up and it was sweetest thing ever. The moment was very private between the two of us (besides the photographers), and it was just absolutely perfect.
I can’t wait to be a wifey! Even saying the words “fiancé” and “engaged” out loud is still so crazy to me. Titi and I are both super excited to be sharing this new chapter of our lives with you all.
